From beautiful bowls and cutting boards, to plants & pottery, there are some fabulous ways to organize your countertop clutter and add style at the same time. Below, are some of my favorite examples.

via Heather Bullard

I love how Heather Bullard stacks her collection of cutting boards and displays her silverware & linen napkins in pottery and platters.

Adding a painting or piece of artwork can add a touch of personality, as well as connect the kitchen to the rest of the home.

Jean Stoffer’s use of plants in the kitchen brings a lovely polished greenhouse feel to it — very nice!

If you’re like me you’ve already sent out your Christmas cards, you’ve shopped for everyone and your home is full of Christmas Cheer — HAHA! If I’m being totally honest, as of this moment, I still have Thanksgiving decorations up. So, today I’m listing my top 5 go-to websites to help get us in the Christmas spirit!

1.I love this shop, Hillenmeyer Christmas Shop in Lexington, Kentucky. They offer gorgeous trees, garlands, wreaths and a barn full of animals that kids can pet and enjoy.

2. Home decor magazines like Atlanta Homes, Southern Living and Veranda are also great sources!

3. Another website that has tons of great ideas is Apartment Therapy

4. I also recommend visiting your local garden store to see what kind of gorgeous seasonal products they have in stock. Some of my favorites are Thompson & Hanson in Houston, TX, Petersham Nurseries in London and Rolling Greens here in Los Angeles.

5. Also, One Kings Lane, has wonderful decor for your tree, mantel and table this holiday season.

I don’t want to make anyone nervous, including myself, but there are only 20 days until Christmas!

Last month I shared the exterior of a project we’ve just finished here in Los Angeles. Today, it’s the before & after photos of the kitchen.

To simplify the kitchen, I did away with the cabinet that enclosed the original fridge, as well as the bread box, which allowed for more counter space. I also removed the trim that ran along the top of the cabinets.

I also wanted to try out a new paint color — Flintstone by Dunn Edwards, which I used on the lower cabinets. I went with a Quartz countertop and brushed nickel faucet fixture. I’m really pleased with how it all turned out.

Sometimes budgets allow you to gut an entire kitchen and other times you have to work with existing cabinets. If you do have to keep your cabinets, paint is your best weapon for change. Next time, some easy pointers on putting together a gallery wall.

Cheers, it’s the weekend!

Enjoying a beautiful meal on the patio is something many of us love to do and with the weather finally cooling down, especially here in Southern California, I’m looking forward to spending more of my evenings outside. A photo that has been a big inspiration to me, for this very purpose, is the one below from House Beautiful.

A neutral yet pretty palette overall but once everything is brought together and you include a brightly colored throw and some greenery, it becomes a beautiful space.

It seems like restaurant design only gets better and better and Gracias Madre is a perfect example. Previously an antique store, Gracias Madre is beautifully designed by interior designer Wendy Haworth and exterior designer Scott Shrader.

I was reminded by my last post how much I love beach inspired interiors! I have always been smitten by California’s take on interiors, especially along the coastal towns like Venice Beach, Santa Monica & Big Sur.

In the mid-90’s, I used to love to go to Indigo Seas on Robertson for Lynn von Kersting’s take on island/travel decor. Another great place (in LA) is American Rag’s Maison Midi on La Brea. I have also heard great things about Surfing Cowboys in Venice Beach, but I haven’t had a chance to pop in myself. If you are not in the LA area, there are loads of other resources for your island-inspired home & garden.

Casa Tua‘s hotel and restaurant in Miami has a relaxed Mediterranean feel.  Tom Scheerer’s work, especially his “Bahamas Veranda House” and “Salt box house” are incredibly fun!  India Hicks has loads of photos and ideas you can browse through on her website. And, of course Pinterest has tons of beach-themed boards to fit anyone’s taste.
