Happy Friday! If you’re looking for a place to unplug, unwind & get healthy in a gorgeous setting then the The Ranch Malibu is the place to go. I came across it several years ago because I love the work of Scott Shrader who did the landscape design for the The Ranch. However, as you’ll see in the photos below the interior design is just as beautiful!

Have a great Weekend!

Not only are Agaves extremely easy to maintain and have an excellent sculptural quality, they also add drama to any garden. They grow best in Mediterranean and Southwest climates, but can also be grown in containers in colder climates as long as they are protected in the winter. Agaves are incredibly versatile and look gorgeous in many different garden styles from Mediterranean to traditional. They are possibly one of my favorite plants to add to a garden.

Agaves look fantastic planted with ground cover like sedum or simply planted in gravel, as in the above photo.

I love the contrast between the blue agave and the dark green boxwood.

I bring them indoors as well

One of the most impressive things to see is when an agave flowers

As a garden designer there are so many other designers I draw inspiration from — Edwina Von Gal, Louis Benech, Jinny Blom, and Scott Shrader to name a few. The garden below was designed by Scott Shrader, and was a big motivation for why I decided to go on the tour.

The tour was part of The Garden Conservancy’s Open Days Program. The program is offered throughout the country and gives us an opportunity to poke our heads inside some gorgeous private gardens. Click here, for more information regarding this program.

It seems like restaurant design only gets better and better and Gracias Madre is a perfect example. Previously an antique store, Gracias Madre is beautifully designed by interior designer Wendy Haworth and exterior designer Scott Shrader.
